Description
Overall Summary of the Job
Directs and coordinates all aspects of the business domestically. Recommends objectives, policies and plans for the business to the firm’s management.
Principal Accountabilities
Develops annual business plan (in conjunction with Global Head, CEO HSI US)
Provides tools/resources for unit leaders of the business to achieve established goals
Guides policy making and personnel related matters
Manages and train all subordinate managers
Ensures quality control for all aspects of the business
Seeks quality improvement through aggressive personnel management
Ensures solid communication firm wide
Oversees/assists budget development and management for all units in the business
Examines income optimization on an ongoing basis
Maintains tight controls over discretionary and manageable costs.
Updates staff monthly on regulatory practices/charges
Ensures compliance for all client activity with exchanges, governmental agencies, and internal regulators
Facilitates flow of information for internal and external audits
Conducts/supports special projects as set by Global Head, CEO HSI, or the current state of business
Provides strong oversight over all regulatory and compliance matters, including the management of operational risk, for assigned area.
Provides management direction to foster effective selection, development and reward of subordinates while contributing to initiatives in support of the Company’s Diversity programs.
Management of Risk
Each employee must be aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with the role and acts in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations.
Each employee must ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.
Each employee must promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.
Observation of Internal Controls
Each employee must maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators. Any failures to comply with the above should be reflected in year end performance assessments.
Each employee must understand, follow and demonstrate compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy.
Qualifications
Knowledge & Skill Requirements
Minimum 15 years experience working in their specific business with very strong product knowledge
Advanced degree in Finance, Business Management or related field
Strong management experience
Good system knowledge (ability to lay out system needs and plans)
Good quantitative knowledge and experience; understanding of operational risks and controls
Ability to interact with a wide range of professionals (Senior Executives, Front Office, Back Office, etc)
Ability to prioritize and help group meet deadlines
