James Joyce

While sightseeing in the beautiful city of Prague, visitors may wish to take a moment
from the wonderful architecture to wet their whistle and James Joys is the perfect spot for
those looking for the lively atmosphere of an authentic Irish pub.

The pub is named after the famous Irish author of "Ulysses" and is part of The King
George's House Hotel, in Lilova Street in Prague’s Old Town. Founded in 1993, James
Joys is the first of its kind in Prague.

Though it may be located more than 2,000 miles away, James Joys brings the authentic
feel of an Irish pub to Prague. Situated on the ground floor, the arched ceiling is certainly
styled to give it that basement bar feel. The sparsely placed wall hangings make this
popular bar closer to the real McCoy than Bennigan's. The ceiling of this eclectic pub
is adorned with infamous quotes from the pub’s namesake celebrating his literary
accomplishments.

This pub is like no other bar around as it shows Sky Sports on two TVs so patrons are
able to watch the local football club without missing out on the great atmosphere. A
delectable menu of beer and food ensures everyone will enjoy the game, even if their
team is losing. The menu has an Irish flavor with dishes such as Molly Broom Irish Stew
as well as the bar patron’s favorite, juicy burgers. And with Guinness and Kilkenny on
tap at authentic Irish prices, this pub is a little slice of heaven.

Don't think that James Joys is just for the late night sports fan, it also offers weekend
brunches and authentic Celtic music that will surely keep any fan entertained.

A dead-ringer for any number of pubs in Belfast, Prague's first Irish pub (1993) doubles
as the unofficial embassy to Eire, packed with tourists looking to loosen up and have a
great time. In fact, actor Dennis Hopper made this place his regular haunts when he was
in town, and spies also cornered Liam Neeson!

Authentic Irish stew, the pub's signature dish, is chunked out with beef, onions, carrots
and potatoes and served with plenty of fresh bread. The Irish breakfasts, served all day,
fill up the plate with sausages, fried eggs and black toast.

There's little doubt that this Irish pub is one of the liveliest bars in Prague and the drink
and banter flow freely in the atmospheric interior.

James Joys is a lively, friendly and entertaining pub that will lighten even the most down
and out tourist looking to enjoy the wonderful Irish atmosphere.
